Mmoexp Old School RuneScape: Adds New Boss Encounter in Latest Update

Old School RuneScape has introduced an exciting new challenge for PvM fans with the release of Yama, the Master of Packs – a fiery, winged minotaur demon and the latest endgame duo boss fight. This fresh encounter is part of the beloved “Great Kourend” questline, which last saw major updates in 2021.

Meet Yama, The Master of Packs

After the events of the “A Kingdom Divided” quest, a new power stirs deep beneath Kourend in the Chasm of Fire. Yama bides his time, gathering strength alongside his fearsome Disciples of Yama. Players must first battle these lesser demons, earning contracts that offer escalating rewards – but be warned, bigger rewards come with bigger risks!

Yama’s threat looms large over Gielinor, and players will need to come well-prepared with top-tier gear and supplies. The fight can be tackled solo or with friends, making it ideal for duo or clan gameplay. Alongside the boss fight, the Chasm of Fire has been revamped with new features like a mining area to farm Crimson Lovakite and a smithing zone to craft essential items for the battle ahead.

Rewards and Requirements

Defeating Yama grants generous loot, including the Chasm of Fire Teleport Scroll, Demon Tallow, Oathplate Armour, Grimoire Pages, and more, depending on RNG luck. To face Yama, players must have completed the “A Kingdom Divided” quest, which also sets the stage with rich lore and a narrative warmup.

Players gearing up can opt to buy gear, consumables, and skill boosts with cheap OSRS gold to ensure peak readiness. Considering Yama’s teleportation mechanics, gear that boosts movement speed, such as the Graceful Outfit, can provide a tactical edge.

Boss Mechanics Breakdown

Yama’s fight unfolds over three distinct phases, each demanding strategic positioning and quick reflexes:

Phase 1: Yama signals attacks with purple smoke or rings of flame. Players must dodge damage by stepping on corresponding black or orange glyphs in specific patterns (either black-orange-black-orange or orange-black-orange-black). Black and orange flames also appear in the arena, requiring players to stay alert.

Phase 2: When Yama’s health drops to 60%, he teleports players to face the Judge of Yama, a lava-filled obstacle course where players must dodge attacks while reaching the boss. A combination of melee and magic attacks is recommended. Returning to Yama, he executes a powerful one-shot dodgeable by stepping on the orange glyph, continuing his assault alongside normal attacks.

Phase 3: At 30% health, players repeat the Judge obstacle course. Upon return, Yama summons void flares that explode after 10 seconds, healing him and damaging players unless destroyed quickly. Players must also dodge incoming fireballs by moving perpendicular to their trajectory.

Mastering these mechanics is crucial to overcoming Yama’s deadly challenge.
